July 2025 – In a major leadership shift, Zomato’s parent company Eternal has appointed Aditya Mangla as the new CEO of its food ordering and delivery division.
The appointment, effective from July 6, marks a key moment in Zomato’s journey to revitalize its core delivery segment amid rising competition and evolving consumer expectations.
Leadership Changes at Zomato
Aditya Mangla becomes the third CEO to lead Zomato’s food delivery vertical in recent years. He replaces Rakesh Ranjan, who held the position for two years and helped the brand navigate a rapidly changing food-tech landscape. Before Ranjan, the division was headed by Mohit Gupta.
Mangla’s appointment reflects both continuity and a fresh strategic direction. Since joining Zomato in early 2021, he has played a pivotal role in shaping product strategy, optimizing supply chain processes, and improving customer experience—making him a natural fit for the leadership position.
Why Aditya Mangla?
Zomato founder and Eternal CEO Deepinder Goyal emphasized Mangla’s strengths in empathetic leadership, systems thinking, and building a strong organizational culture.
Internally, Mangla has built a reputation as a data-driven and people-centric leader—a rare combination seen as essential for guiding Zomato through its next phase of transformation.
Tackling Slow Growth and New Market Dynamics
While Zomato remains a leading player in India’s food delivery space, recent quarters have shown signs of slowing growth. With emerging competitors and evolving customer behaviors, the company faces increasing pressure to boost operational efficiency, improve retention, and drive profitability at scale.
Strategic Priorities Under Mangla
Under Mangla’s leadership, Zomato is expected to focus on:
-
Enhancing product experiences that simplify food ordering
-
Improving logistics and last-mile delivery through smarter supply chain management
-
Strengthening relationships with restaurants and delivery partners
-
Cultivating a culture of agility, innovation, and accountability within internal teams
Post-IPO Landscape and the Road Ahead
Following its IPO, Zomato has expanded into verticals like quick commerce (Blinkit), dining-out services, and loyalty programs. However, the food delivery division remains the core revenue driver.
With a product-focused CEO and a renewed emphasis on culture, Zomato appears poised not just to defend its leadership in the market—but to lead the next wave of customer-centric innovation in the food tech space.
Aditya Mangla’s appointment as CEO represents a bold internal bet on long-term leadership and sustainable growth. As Zomato navigates challenges such as rising delivery costs, shifting consumer expectations, and intensified competition, this transition reflects a strong belief in operational excellence and grounded leadership.
If executed well, this change could set the stage for Zomato’s next big leap in India’s startup success story.
